Summary:
In 2007, Kevin and Karen Shinn opened a small restaurant on the corner of 8th and S Streets in the Haymarket District of Lincoln, Nebraska. They faced several challenges during its ten-year life cycle. The restaurant eventually closed in December 2017. But before it closed, it became more than a destination for local food and drink. Guests describe a visit to bread&cup like entering into a home, feeling the familiar warmth of the Shinn’s hospitality. Over the years, there were many first dates, a few known engagements, and even a wedding at bread&cup.
In 2010, Karen was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and their community of patrons rallied around her with support. Kevin shares how they dealt with this challenge in the midst of trying to grow a small business, and provides an intimate look into the role of a caregiver.
The book includes more than 25 recipes bread&cup favorites. These are the tried and true versions used in the kitchen. The reader will be able to recreate bread&cup hummus, pesto or apple butter at home.
Most importantly, Kevin tells of the agony of watching a business fail, and seeing a dream turn into a nightmare. He shares his insight into how he chose to grab onto hope in the aftermath and refused the crushing impact of despair.
A book of hope and inspiration for entrepreneurs, foodies, and anyone who has encountered the ups and downs of life.
